Museo del Prado

This is world-wide known art gallery. Many people visit Spain because they are interested in the wonderful museum and it really is one of the most important landmarks of Madrid. It is the largest art collection in the world and is often also seen as one of the best in the world. The exhibition contains masterpieces of very famous artists, such as Rembrandt, Botticelli, Velasquez and many others. It is located in an old building of the end of 18th century and it is surrounded by a meadow. The easiest way to get there is by metro. The nearest stations are Banco de Espana or Atocha.

Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza

Here you can see various Flemish art works from the primitive ones to the newer modern works. There are over 8 hundred works in the museum and it is the widest Flemish art collection in the world. You can easily combine the visit of this museum with that of Museo del Prado, because they are very near to each other. Just as to the Museo del Prado, you can go by metro to Banco de Espana.


Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia

This is the national museum of the contemporary art of Spain. There is a permanent exhibition with an amazing variety of the modern disciplines of art. Here you will find great examples of modern Spanish paintings, videos, photographs and other disciplines. If you go by metro, the closest station is Atocha.

Palacio Real

Palacio Real or simply the Loyal Palace, which once was used as a king’s residence, is now only a place of interest for tourists and locals. Today the place is sometimes used for official acts. You can’t visit any room of the palace though, but the main ones are open for visitors. The place is especially fascinating with its architecture. There are also an impressive garden and many art works of great artists, such as Velasquez, Rubens and many more.

There is a wide range of museums for those who are interested in architecture, sacral buildings or religion. Some of the most important of them are the Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales and the Monasterio de la encarnación but those are not the only ones.
